This project was a part of my 'Image Processing' module for Univeristy, and is an algorithm written in MATLAB that detects retinal vessels in low-contrast eye scan images.
This was a very difficult algorithm to write, and is probably my best out of the whole module. It combines morphological operations, segmenting and several other MATLAB functions in order to extract the vessels out of the image, and onto a clearly-visible binary image.
The algorithm of course is not perfect. It doesn't extract everything and operates only if the image meets specific conditions. Nevertheless, for me, it is an achievement in a language/area that I know little about. And even though MATLAB and image processing is not my area, it was a very interesting topic to learn about nonetheless.
